Finally upgraded

Hello! I just upgraded to WordPress 2.5 after a year and a half of no blogs….let’s see if this stirs more writing in the near future….

Be very, very quiet, we are hunting Wablets!

A million and one things have happened over the past year, but I cannot put these things quite into words yet. So for now, a small update on the site.

My friend in the Philippines is starting another tech company. Check out Wablet. It’s a unique app to put some slick controls on all of your IM apps in one tidy little package. You can embed code into webpages (blogs, ebay, myspace, etc.) so that vistors can contact you immediately if you are online. You have the choice to block whomever, etc. I threw a wablet in the left column, so check it out and give me a shout!

Still here

Hi! It’s been a year. Just been thinking about what to write….can you say blogger’s block? Anyway the ‘new’ (beta for a year) Wordpress blog is finally in place. Thanks to Goatload for lighting the fire under my…

Bye Bye Blosxom

Blog flash! I made the jump to Wordpress from Blosxom for ease of use and configuration. Wordpress has a wicked cool GUI dashboard tool to write your blog and configure to your heart’s desire. With Blosxom you type your blog in a text file and save it in a blog folder. Easy right? Yes, but the configuration of your blog site just seemed to require too much coding, which I do not have any time for.

I’ve setup theme choosing, so you can pick the one that you like best. I plan to make my own theme in the near future. Enjoy the site!

High ate us..

I’m back…sort of…I’ve been a quite a loofer lately…I tried to make some positive life changes, but I got setback to square one; seems for the worse now, but probably for the better in the long run.

I did take a little trip to Hilton Head, SC for golf and Augusta, GA for a niece’s high school graduation. My first time visiting the South, and I can tell you that Arby’s tastes the same down there…Check out new pictures from this trip in the Photo Gallery:

Amanda’s Graduation

Hilton Head

I was fortunate enough to get 3 rounds of golf in HH despite promise of rain and thunderstorms for the entire week. Here are the 2 nice courses I played:

Sea Pines Ocean Course

Palmetto Dunes Arthur Hills

AH alligator

I saw my first resident golf course alligator in one of the Arthur Hills lagoons…a mere 20 feet away from my ball!

tea time

Sipping my Jasmine tea to settle my stommy, even though it’s pushing 90+ degrees and record humidity today….je joue au tennis avec goatload aussi!

Ahoy mates!

Yarrrrrrr!

Jetlagger

Jetlagger. Jet-lag-ger…hmmm…After watching their show last Friday night Upstairs at the Middle East, I felt a little woozy, a tad discombobulated…and that was without any alcohol! Why, I ask, why?!!?

MacJams

Anyway, my buddy is in this band, playing some fill-thay guitar and slapping down cool lyrics. Let’s see, they’ve a lead guitar, bass and drums…now add a laptop computer? They call it “laptop rock and/or roll.”

Kind of mesmerizing, not quite unlike the edgy rock and pop sound of their old band Sayhitolisa; a soothing blend of instruments, drum beats, and samples that takes you by surprise- there’s a lot going on I can’t possibly keep up! You sway and relax to it.. it’s hypnotic…oh, who am I kidding, I’m not a music critic or afisheonardo. I’ll just say Me Likey- it’s a damn good listening experience! You can see the passion in their play, and that kicks A$$ in my book! What are you waiting for? Give them a listen!

zombie

Hi. I feel like a zombie these days. If you know me, you would be wise to get your hands on a copy of this. I cannot explain, but I just get these incredibly painful urges…

They both gave me the finger…

Finger

How nice! I was walking down the sidewalk on Lexington St. in Waltham, MA minding my own business, when a car coming in my direction, greets me with a couple of quick honks….I look over in anticipation of a friendly face, but instead I am met with a couple of angry white teenage boys in baseball caps, each flicking the bird at me in a heated passion. For some reason I started to hear: “Sweep the leg!”, “Get him a body bag!”, and “Finish him!” from The Karate Kid. I wonder what was on their minds, as they saw me walking with a brown paper bag containing a gyro; what was it that compelled them to strike me with such pointed hatred….racism.

That’s all I can come up with. I am an Asian-American, that must be the reason. I’d imagine they just got out of Waltham high, as it was just past 2 pm. Maybe they were high on drugs, who knows. What if I reacted quickly and threw my gyro at their windshield, then who would be in control of the situation, huh? Violence is not the answer.

Quick flashbacks take me to about 5 years ago, when I was walking down a main street in Arlington, MA around Halloween at night, and some hooligans threw a pumpkin at me and my friend as they passed us by in a car…not racism there, as it was too dark, but messed up kids nonetheless….looking to cause trouble.

Even further back, growing up in Augusta, ME, a kid in Kindergarten had the audacity to yell racial remarks at me, a 2nd grader, and I wasn’t even Chinese! But even today, there are plenty of adults who generalize all Asians as such.

Racism has always been around, I just tend to think it doesn’t apply to me anymore.

Will those kids I encountered today do anything more serious than flick gyro-wielding Asian people off? What were they going to do next? I just don’t know how people get like this. I consider myself lucky that they did not have a gun or some other projectile weapon….

So I was only in the area to get a new Massachusetts state inspection sticker for my car, and I got a nice little dose of racism to boot.
